Mary to Moldova to Study Russian on Scholarship

What did you do?

This past summer I received a scholarship to travel overseas and stay with a host family in Moldova to study Russian for six weeks.

What organization recognized the achievement?

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth awarded me the scholarship.

How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?

Homeschooling allowed me the time to pursue my study of Russian which ultimately led to my receiving the scholarship.

What are your interests?

My interests are foreign language and cultures. I have studied both Russian and Spanish in the past.

What are you inspired to do with your life?

With the language skills I have acquired, I would like to help bridge the cultural gap between immigrants and American citizens here in the U S.

What are your favorite subjects and why?

My favorite subjects are Russian and literature. I enjoy learning about different cultures and you can learn a lot about a culture through their literature.
