Mission Trip to Peru Inspires Downing Siblings
Jan. 21-31st, 2026, Moriah, Miriam, James, and Melea Downing all traveled to Peru on a mission trip. They lived and worked at the Catholic Orphanage Casa Hogar.
Each day, they attended Mass, spent time in Adoration, and worked and played with the children. During their time there, they also visited the slums, taking powdered milk to the poor.
During their time, they were also able to venerate St. Martin de Porres and St. Rose of Lima at their respective tombs.
What organization recognized the achievement?
Casa Hogar is a mission of the Archdiocese of LaCrosse.
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
The flexible homeschooling schedule allowed them to take the time to visit another country and learn about a new culture. Miriam, a Seton Spanish 2 student, was also able to put her Spanish skills to the test!
What are you inspired to do with your life?
All the kids were so inspired by the gratitude the kids had, even though they had so little.
