Emma Soars High – Has a Passion for Aviation
Emma has shown a passion for aviation. And as a homeschooler, she has had the opportunity to explore that passion.
At only 14, Emma is the recipient of the Skyline Soaring Educational Foundation Scholarship to learn to fly gliders. She also received the Soaring Society of America’s Discovery Scholarship to fly gliders.
This summer, she was accepted into and attended the North Central Region Glider Flight Academy in Yoder, KS, and achieved solo flight. She is an active member of the Civil Air Patrol and hopes to pursue a career in aviation.

She is a recipient of Skyline Soaring Educational Foundation’s 2022 Scholarship and the Soaring Society of America’s Discovery Scholarship.
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
As a homeschooler, Emma’s flexible schedule allows her to complete her academic work from Seton and still have time to pursue her aviation interests. She is busy studying for her FAA exam this summer but will return to her Seton studies in the fall.
What are your interests?
Her interests include aviation, Irish Dance, 4-H shooting, 4-H Dairy Goats, and horse riding.
What are you inspired to do with your life?
Emma hopes to pursue her private pilot’s license at 16, attend the United States Air Force Academy, and have a career in aviation.
What are your favorite subjects and why?
Her favorite subject is science. This year, she learned a lot in physical science that has helped her learn to fly gliders.
