Honor Student Jadon Performs at Kennedy Center
What did you do?
I was selected to participate in the Kirov International Music Festival held in Washington, D.C. and was also invited as an honor student to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
I have to give a lot of credit to my piano teachers, Jordan & Josephine Ong. Jordan has performed around the world and took first place at the Russian Musical Alliance International Piano Competition, so it is really special having them teach me every week.
During the festival, from August 8th – 16th, I was allowed to attend master classes & seminars with multi-international award-winning instructors and faculty members from around the world. I learned a lot and it was an honor to work with them.
The festival ended with an honor student performance at the Kennedy Center. I played Chopin’s, Minute Waltz. It is still hard to believe my name was in a Kennedy Center playbill.
What organization recognized the achievement?
The Kirov International Music Festival and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
Homeschooling has given me time, time for lessons and time to practice. My parents didn’t always homeschool and it was difficult to find time for extra-curricular activities after a long day of school and homework. Homeschooling also gives us flexibility.
The schools in our area had already started when the Kirov Festival was taking place, so homeschooling allowed me the flexibility to attend for a full week without having to be reported absent and having a lot of makeup work.
What are your interests?
I really love doing Karate. I am currently a red belt and hope to be a black belt by this time next year. I love to read anything and everything, but my favorite books are fantasy books such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and realistic fiction like the books written by Brian Selznick.
Of course, I love playing the piano. My focus now is preparing for Piano Super Saturday in November which is run by the insanely talented Sergei Kuznetsoff and an upcoming Sonatina competition.
What are you inspired to do with your life?
I have three things that I think a lot about doing. I would like to be a surgeon, pianist, and/or a priest. I’d like to be a surgeon because I love science and it’s always been an easy and interesting subject for me. I’m not sure what I will ultimately be called to do, but I feel certain piano will always be a part of my life.
What are your favorite subjects and why?
Science is by far my favorite subject especially Anatomy. I just think it’s really interesting.
