Mary’s Winning Speeches Take Her to National Level
What did you do?
I qualified to the National Championship in two speeches with a Nationwide Christian homeschool speech and debate league!
I competed in two qualifying tournaments this spring and made it to the Regional Invitational where I went on to get third place in both speeches, qualifying me to Nationals in St. Paul, Minnesota. One of my speeches is a biographical narrative on Florence Nightingale, and the other is a duo interpretation (speech with a partner) of the Miracle Worker, the book about Helen Keller.
What organization recognized the achievement?
NCFCA (National Christian Forensics and Communications Association)
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
NCFCA’s competitors are exclusively homeschooled, so I wouldn’t have been able to participate had I not been homeschooled. Homeschooling also gave me the flexibility to be gone for several days at a time in order to attend the tournaments.
What are your interests?
I love to play the piano, sing, horseback ride, figure skate, travel with my family, and do pro-life work.
What are you inspired to do with your life?
I would love to be a private piano teacher but am discerning God’s will for my life right now because His will is ultimately what I want.
What are your favorite subjects and why?
My favorite subject is Seton English 12. I really enjoy the books that I am required to read as well as the challenge of writing essays.
