The Olandria Family Spreads Holy Family Devotion

We wanted to spread the devotion of the Holy Child amongst our fellow homeschooling families.

It is important for us to work as instruments of God to bring his children closer to Him, especially the youth, and instill devotion to Sto. Niño young. We were inspired to get involved when one of our friends showed interest in visiting the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu.

What did you do?

We led our homeschooling group around the important iconic spots inside the Basilica. We gave a brief history of each spot, including fun facts and engaging activities to help entertain the children and the youth while keeping it educational.

We brought them to the seven significant spots, such as the Dagkutanan (Candle Area), Magellan’s Cross, Sto. Niño Museum, Sto Niño Pilgrimage Center, Sto. Niño Basilica and its chapel. It was amazing. Everyone enjoyed their tour and learned very valuable information about our Holy Child.

How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?

Homeschooling has allowed us to have extra time to do more activities outside school. This free time is later spent planning and practicing for fun and exciting events like the Pilgrimage at the Basilica del Santo Niño de Cebu.

What are your interests and inspirations?

Many things in life interest us. The ones we like the most are reading books, playing online games, photography, cubing, craft making, playing the violin, fighting games, arts, drawing, and crocheting.

Homeschooling has inspired us to show our devotion to the Child Jesus and to help our fellow homeschoolers learn more about Him.

What are your favorite subjects and why?

NJ says he likes Science because it is informative and engaging. Vinz likes Algebra because “there is always a definitive answer. I also like Personal Finance and Economics because I can learn how the world economy works.”

Ben says he likes Music because “I enjoy playing the violin.” Lorenz likes Religion because “it allows me to learn more about my faith and the early church.”

Gracie likes World History because “I find it interesting and managing to trace back to its historical and significant roots.” Finally, Angel likes The Early Church and the Fathers because it shows the history of our faith and draws connections from the present-day church back to its roots.

The Augustinian Friars of the Basilica del Sto. Niño de Cebu recognized our achievement.
