Thomas is First Runner-up in Classical Voice

What did you do?

I received an honourable mention and was a first runner-up for my performance in the Ontario Provincial competition for classical voice, after pursuing singing for only two years. I’ve played the piano my whole life, but was inspired to study voice in addition to piano after receiving encouragement from my teachers. I was chosen from among participants in a local music festival to participate in this competition, representing my home district of Grey Bruce, Ontario.

What organization recognized the achievement?

The Ontario Music Festival Association recognized this achievement.

How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?

Homeschooling helped me achieve my goal because of the emphasis it places on developing independent study skills. And, the flexibility that a homeschool curriculum affords enabled me to find plenty of time for lessons and consistent daily practice.

What are your interests?

I have recently taken an interest in leathercraft and woodworking. I enjoy reading, singing, playing the piano, and biking. I am also very interested in my faith.

What are you inspired to do with your life?

As I discern my vocation, I hope to keep up my musical studies as something that I can share and enjoy throughout my life. I intend to follow in my father’s footsteps and pursue a career in finance.

What are your favorite subjects and why?

My favorite subject is Math, because I love finding out how things work and employing both creative and analytical methods to problem-solving. I also really enjoy Literature, because following characters and themes throughout a book is always captivating.
