Adler Volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul
Adler has volunteered throughout his Jr. High and High School years. He has volunteered twice a week at our local food pantry, St. Vincent DePaul.
He had also volunteered at his Catholic grade school, serving at the school Masses. Helping to train altar servers and volunteering on Fridays after the school Mass for three years. Adler is still an altar server at weekend Masses and holy days of obligation.
What organization recognized the achievement?
The men and women at Saint Vincent DePaul are an older group and stop to let us know how much help Adler is and how much they enjoy him. They have been very influential to Adler and have helped to strengthen his servant’s heart.
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
Adler chose what activities he wanted to do outside of his homeschooling. He chose to volunteer, which has allowed him to grow in virtue. Adler can be at the food pantry and grade school in the mornings with his flexible schedule.
What are your interests?
Adler studies meteorology and geography. He has mapped whole cities. He chose Physics as an elective. He also learns random facts. He programs, has built computers, and taught his friends how to build theirs.
A conservative, Adler also studies politics, knows the names of senators and their stances, and political maps, and enjoys watching the city council meeting. He enjoys learning about the history of the Church and joined his father and me at the Advent Mission to hear the visiting priest speak on this subject.
What are you inspired to do with your life?
Adler is focused on meteorology. He is really attached to his time at Saint Vincent DePaul. My husband and I are in our sixties, and Adler has been very helpful with yard work and with driving me to the store.
What are your favorite subjects and why?
Adler has moved into mostly independent work in his subjects. He prefers Social Studies and Math. He really liked Physics. He enjoyed Life Science and Geography. The U.S. Government course has added information to what he already knows.
Theology was taught to him by a teacher who was very knowledgeable about the Catechism, the History of the Church, and the Saints in grade school. His Theology has now helped him better understand. The apologetics is very interesting to him. He really likes to be correct and knowledgeable when he speaks. He likes to understand results.
The photo was taken at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Pekin, Illinois. One of the Men at Saint Vincent de Paul sent me pictures from his senior year. I also received one from a woman who knew me when I was Adler’s age. That made me realize I should recognize Adler in a way that shows him how important his choices have been throughout his high school years.
