Matthew Helps Produce the CATHERINE Movie

Matthew completed an independent study in Film Studies through Seton. His capstone project was “CATHERINE,” a movie about Saint Catherine Labouré and the Miraculous Medal.

The script was inspired by Saint Catherine Labouré and the Miraculous Medal by Alma Power-Waters, one of Seton’s book report choices. Matthew’s roles on this project included production engineer, cameraman, and film editor. He even had a cameo in the film as the bishop at the end! The movie had a cast of 90 youths, so Matthew also had experience working with many people. The premiere at a local movie theater attracted over 350 people.

Homeschooling helped achieve this goal because it allowed for a flexible schedule around the demanding filming days. As this project took many hours, it was good to receive Seton’s independent study credit for all the educational experience that this project offered.

Matthew will attend Franciscan University in the fall after graduating from Seton, where he will study Computer Science with a minor in Film Studies.
