Mia Earns Silver Award Helping Mothers in Need

I earned a Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award for a Cadette, by creating and executing a project to help my local Birthright center. Birthright is an international non-profit organization that offers support and resources for pregnant mothers in need.

My project focused on raising awareness of the center, donating and collecting items for mothers and babies in need, building a lending library, and building shelving space for newborn layettes.

Can You Tell Us More About Your Project?

To raise funds, I offered donation-based babysitting for children in my community and held lemonade stands. To raise awareness, I spoke about Birthright at my homeschool co-op and church youth group. I also created an Amazon wish list of office needs (diapers, baby wash, baby shampoo, baby lotion, etc.) as another way to generate donations for mothers in need. In total, I spent 50 hours on this project to receive the award, and I plan to continue to volunteer at Birthright.

In addition to receiving the award, I was thankful for the opportunity to volunteer at the Birthright Center alongside my grandmother, who began volunteering there almost 50 years ago. We are looking forward to continuing to volunteer together to support expectant and new mothers in need.
